Set up your accounts in Xero
If you don’t want to bring your individual transaction history but want the speed and convenience of importing into Xero all your customer and supplier details and your familiar chart of accounts then Movemybooks Quickstart is for you. It will swiftly copy all the important stuff from your old accounting platform and your opening balances so you can start off where you left off. You don’t need to do any preparation and as you aren’t moving hundreds or thousands of transactions there aren’t any post conversion tasks or tidying up to do either. Just setup Xero for your business in minutes.
All you need to do is keep clicking on the green buttons. Our software will collect your source data, convert it and move it to your Xero organisation, then email you when it’s done – typically within 10 minutes.

What gets converted?
Our software will move the chart of accounts, customer data, supplier data and correct opening balances.
All of the nominal/general ledger, customer and supplier balances will be the same as in the source data. But without any transaction detail getting in the way.
As there is no transaction detail there is no data tidying to be done and there are no post conversion tasks either.
Is it really FREE?
If you are switching to Xero you’ll be pleased to know that Xero will pay for your migration., so you will be up and running in no time.

The important bit
PLEASE READ BEFORE USING MOVEMYBOOKS
To convert from another cloud platform, you will need to authorise us to access your current platform, and our web application will take care of the rest.
To convert from desktop accounting software, you will need to have the data open in Sage or QuickBooks so that our data uploader can access it.
If you only have a backup file and not the software, we can do this step for you. When you reach the Upload Data stage of the conversion, follow the link for instructions on sending your file and details.
We convert all of the core, important accounting data for you. This includes your chart of accounts and all of the balances on those accounts. Customer and supplier contact details, together with the balances on all customer and supplier accounts, are converted too.
No individual transaction detail will be brought over to Xero.

What is Movemybooks?
Movemybooks is online software by Ledgerscope, experts at providing tools for accessing, analysing and transforming accounting data. Movemybooks extracts company accounting and financial data from your old accounting system, converts it and loads it into Xero. We can currently transfer data from Sage50, Sage Accounting, QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, KashFlow and FreeAgent.
How much does the service cost?
You’ll be pleased to know that Xero will pay for your conversion, allowing you to migrate up to 2 years of historic data. (Our Convert 24 service – normal price £180 – gives you all transactions for the current year to date, plus all of the previous accounting period.)
If you would like additional years of transaction history, these cost £75 per year. You can also opt to include Sage department information for an extra £75. All prices exclude VAT.
You will also need to create a new Xero organisation for each conversion and you will be responsible for the monthly subscription Xero.

Is Movemybooks endorsed by Xero?
Xero recommends using Movemybooks to transfer data to Xero from Sage50, Sage Accounting, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop or KashFlow.
How long will it take to transfer the data?
Quickstart typically takes less than 10 minutes as you are only stetting up Xero ready to use and you aren’t bringins 100s or 1000s of transactions across.
How will the data be used?
When you upload the data, our software simply converts it to Xero format. We don’t review it in detail, share it with anyone outside our business, or use it for anything else. We do not retain the data permanently and it will be deleted from our servers after 30 days.
How will the data be protected?
Our online software is protected by strong encryption. This scrambles the data, making it virtually impossible to intercept and decode online. Data is stored encrypted on our servers. We also make sure data is encrypted when we transfer it to Xero. For more information please refer to our Security FAQ.
Can I bring transaction detail across?
No.
Quickstart is designed to setup Xero just like your old accounting system but without importing the transaction detail. If you want transaction details then please choose Movemybooks standard service to migrate data to Xero
I’ve already created a Xero organisation, can I still migrate existing desktop data to that account?
Yes, but only provided that the new organisation does not contain any data. If this is not the case, then the conversion will stop and you will need to provide a new, empty organisation in order to proceed.
What desktop software can I convert from?
UK versions of Sage 50 / Instant Accounting (v14 and any more recent versions ie 2008 onwards); UK versions of QuickBooks desktop (2008 and any more recent versions). We only convert to the UK version of Xero – if you want to convert to Xero in a country outside UK and Ireland, please check to see if Movemybooks has a service in the relevant region by selecting a different region at the top of this page. We cannot convert into the Starter, Ledger or Cashbook versions of Xero due to transaction volume limitations. Source systems must have a base currency of GBP.
What online software can I convert from?
UK versions of QuickBooks Online, Sage Accounting and KashFlow. We only convert to the UK version of Xero – if you want to convert to Xero in a country outside UK and Ireland, please check to see if Movemybooks has a service in the relevant region by selecting a different region at the top of this page. We cannot convert into the Starter, Ledger or Cashbook versions of Xero due to transaction volume limitations. Source systems must have a base currency of GBP.
Can I convert accounts that deal with with foreign currencies?
Data which includes foreign currencies will be converted in the same way as other data. However, all foreign currency amounts will be changed to the home currency values. Factors specific to QuickBooks, and beyond our control, usually mean the conversion result is not completely accurate. It is not possible to fix your conversion further with respect to foreign currencies – this is the best outcome that is possible.
Do you support hosted desktops?
We work on a variety of hosted desktops. There is no requirement to install anything, but the extractor application will need to have permissions to run. Most of the time this isn’t an issue but if you’ve tried it and it doesn’t work then your hosting provider should be able to help and our support team will be happy to talk to them about it. If you can’t get our desktop extractor to work on your hosted desktop we can complete the extraction for you if you provide the backup file – there is an option you can select when you migrate your data.
